If you banked with Great Western Bank and your QuickBooks feed broke, the reason is the merger. First Interstate BancSystem (Nasdaq: FIBK, headquartered in Billings, Montana, around $26 billion in assets) completed its acquisition of Great Western Bancorp on February 1, 2022, and converted Great Western's branches and systems to First Interstate Bank over the weekend of May 23, 2022. That conversion retired the old Great Western connection, so anyone who linked under that name had to reconnect under First Interstate Bank. Upload a First Interstate Bank PDF statement to the converter at the top of this page and get the transactions into QuickBooks directly.
The converter turns a First Interstate Bank PDF statement into a .qbo Web Connect file that imports into QuickBooks Online or QuickBooks Desktop, plus matching Excel and CSV copies. Every transaction keeps its date, description, and amount, and the running total is checked against the statement before you export. Here is how First Interstate accounts connect to QuickBooks, why the Great Western conversion broke so many feeds, and when converting the PDF is the faster route.
Built for the statements US banks actually send, checked before it exports.
The converter adds up the transactions it parsed and matches that to the statement total before you export, so nothing is silently dropped.
Valid OFX 1.02 with QuickBooks Web Connect headers. Online and Desktop import it as a standard bank feed.
OCR runs before parsing, so a scanned or photographed paper statement comes out the same as a digital PDF.
Bulk upload for catch-up and cleanup work. Each file gets its own reconciliation check and its own exports.
Enter the password on upload. Multi-column and multi-page statement layouts are parsed too.
One conversion, three files: the .qbo for QuickBooks, an XLSX to review, and a CSV for everything else.
Three steps. No column-mapping wizard.
Drag in a PDF, a scan, or a phone photo. Password-protected and multi-page files are fine.
Every transaction is extracted and checked against the statement total. You see the parsed rows before exporting.
Download the .qbo and import it as a Web Connect bank feed. Excel and CSV are in the same download.

Your Great Western Bank connection stopped working because Great Western became First Interstate Bank. First Interstate closed the merger on February 1, 2022, and moved Great Western accounts onto its own systems with the rebrand on May 23, 2022. A core conversion like that retires the old bank feed, so the Great Western profile in QuickBooks and Quicken no longer matches a live institution and downloads fail. The accounts now live under First Interstate Bank, so the feed has to be relinked there. Converting the PDF statement gets transactions in while you reconnect.
Reconnect by turning off the bank feed on each Great Western account in QuickBooks first, then adding the account again and searching for First Interstate Bank rather than Great Western. In QuickBooks Online, disconnect the account under Bank transactions, then reconnect and choose First Interstate Bank; in QuickBooks Desktop, deactivate the account in Bank Feeds, then set it up again under the new name. If the relink imports nothing or throws an error such as 102 or 105, which is common right after a conversion, convert the PDF statement with the tool above and import that instead.
Yes, First Interstate Bank works with QuickBooks. The dependable path is Web Connect, where you log into online banking, download a .qbo file, and import it into QuickBooks. First Interstate also supports the aggregated bank feed for QuickBooks Online, though that connection is the one most likely to break after a merger conversion or an online banking change. If your account was a former Great Western account, or a former Cascade, Inland Northwest, or Idaho Independent account from an earlier acquisition, the feed history can be patchy, and converting the PDF gives you clean data regardless.
Log in to First Interstate Bank online banking, open the account, and look for the download or export option, choosing the QuickBooks Web Connect (.qbo) format and a date range if offered. Import the .qbo in QuickBooks through Upload from file in QuickBooks Online, or File, Utilities, Import, Web Connect Files in QuickBooks Desktop. Online banking shows roughly the last 24 months of activity, so anything older has to be worked from a saved statement. When the export is limited or the feed will not connect, save the PDF and convert it.
Sign in to First Interstate Bank online banking, open the More menu, and go to Online Statements, then choose the month and save it as a PDF. You usually have to enroll in online statements first, after which a new statement is posted the day after the cycle closes. Online statement history runs about 24 months, so older months may not be available through the website and have to come from a statement you already saved. The converter reads any of these the same way, so an older statement and a current one both produce a clean .qbo file.
Convert the First Interstate Bank PDF to a .qbo file with the converter above, then import that file. In QuickBooks Online, go to Transactions, Bank transactions, then Upload from file, and choose the .qbo. In QuickBooks Desktop, go to File, Utilities, Import, Web Connect Files. QuickBooks asks which account the transactions belong to, then sends them into the banking review queue for matching and categorizing, exactly as a working feed would, without depending on a connection that the Great Western conversion left unreliable.
First Interstate Bank statements convert cleanly whether they come from a personal checking or savings account or a business relationship across its Montana, Wyoming, and wider Rocky Mountain and Pacific Northwest footprint. They list transactions in date order with a description and amount, separating deposits and credits from checks, withdrawals, and fees, with a daily or ending balance summary. The converter strips out the summary boxes, fee tables, and marketing inserts, so only real transactions reach your .qbo file, and it reads scanned or photographed statements through OCR the same way it reads a digital PDF.
Use the feed for going forward activity if the First Interstate Web Connect download or aggregated link works on your account, since it keeps QuickBooks current. Convert the PDF statement when the feed stalls after the Great Western conversion, when QuickBooks still lists a retired Great Western name, or when you need history the feed misses: statements older than the online window, opening balances for a new QuickBooks file, a catch up period, or a closed account.
Accuracy is the part that matters most, because a converter that quietly drops or misreads a transaction costs far more time than it saves. The error usually surfaces during reconciliation, sometimes weeks later, while you chase a few dollars across a long register. This converter totals the transactions it parsed and checks that figure against the statement total before it lets you export, so the .qbo you import reflects every line First Interstate printed. You review the parsed rows in the preview first, then export once the numbers tie out.
Upload a PDF, see every transaction extracted in seconds. No card to try it.
