East West Bank stopped supporting QuickBooks Direct Connect and Web Direct back in March 2021, so there is no live, automatic feed that pulls East West transactions straight into QuickBooks anymore. What the bank offers instead is a manual export: you sign in to online banking, export your transaction history as a QuickBooks Web Connect (.qbo) file, and import it yourself. That works when the export behaves, but East West customers regularly hit downloads that come back empty, only offer QFX or CSV, or cover a shorter window than they need. When that happens, you can work straight from the statement. Upload an East West Bank PDF statement to the converter at the top of this page and get the transactions back in a format QuickBooks accepts.
The converter turns an East West Bank PDF statement into a .qbo Web Connect file that imports into QuickBooks Online or QuickBooks Desktop, plus matching Excel and CSV copies. Every transaction keeps its date, description, and amount, and the running total is checked against the statement before you export. Here is how East West connects to QuickBooks now that Direct Connect is gone, why the manual export fails, and when converting the PDF is the better move.
Built for the statements US banks actually send, checked before it exports.
The converter adds up the transactions it parsed and matches that to the statement total before you export, so nothing is silently dropped.
Valid OFX 1.02 with QuickBooks Web Connect headers. Online and Desktop import it as a standard bank feed.
OCR runs before parsing, so a scanned or photographed paper statement comes out the same as a digital PDF.
Bulk upload for catch-up and cleanup work. Each file gets its own reconciliation check and its own exports.
Enter the password on upload. Multi-column and multi-page statement layouts are parsed too.
One conversion, three files: the .qbo for QuickBooks, an XLSX to review, and a CSV for everything else.
Three steps. No column-mapping wizard.
Drag in a PDF, a scan, or a phone photo. Password-protected and multi-page files are fine.
Every transaction is extracted and checked against the statement total. You see the parsed rows before exporting.
Download the .qbo and import it as a Web Connect bank feed. Excel and CSV are in the same download.

Partly. East West Bank no longer supports Direct Connect or Web Direct for QuickBooks, which it discontinued in March 2021, so there is no real-time feed that authenticates and downloads on its own. What East West supports is a manual Web Connect export: you download a .qbo file of your activity from East West online banking and import it into QuickBooks. Because there is no automatic connection to fall back on, many East West business customers convert the PDF statement instead, which produces the same .qbo import file without depending on an export feature the bank pared back.
Since East West retired Direct Connect, the supported path is to export your transaction history from online banking in QuickBooks Web Connect (.qbo) format and import that file in QuickBooks. Sign in, open the account, choose to export or download activity, pick the .qbo format and a date range, then import it in QuickBooks Online through Upload from file or in Desktop through File, Utilities, Import, Web Connect Files. If the export only offers QFX or CSV, comes back empty, or stops short of the period you need, download the East West PDF statement instead and convert it to .qbo with the tool above so the import still works.
The usual reason is simple: East West turned off Direct Connect and Web Direct in March 2021, so any QuickBooks setup that still expects a live East West feed will fail because that feed no longer exists. If you set the account up before the change, QuickBooks may keep prompting for credentials that the bank will never accept again. The fix is to move to the manual Web Connect export, or to skip the export entirely and convert your PDF statements. Download the East West statement for the period you need, convert it to a .qbo file here, and import that so the account stays current without a feed.
Log in to East West online banking, open the account, and choose the option to download or export activity, then select the QuickBooks Web Connect (.qbo) format and a date range. Import the file in QuickBooks through Upload from file in QuickBooks Online, or File, Utilities, Import, Web Connect Files in Desktop. The online export typically reaches back only a limited stretch, so for older periods you will need the statement. If the .qbo download is unavailable or only QFX and CSV are offered, save the PDF statement for that period and convert it to .qbo with the tool above so you can import the transactions without fighting the format.
Sign in to East West online banking or the mobile app, open the account, and go to the statements or documents section. Select the month you need and save the eStatement as a PDF using the download or print option. Online statement history is usually limited to the most recent stretch, so request older periods from the bank if they are not listed. Whatever the source, the PDF you download converts the same way, so you can reach history the export never offers and rebuild months the discontinued feed left empty.
Convert the East West PDF to a .qbo file with the converter above, then import that file. In QuickBooks Online, go to Transactions, Bank transactions, then Upload from file, and choose the .qbo. In QuickBooks Desktop, go to File, Utilities, Import, Web Connect Files. QuickBooks asks which account the transactions belong to, then drops them into the banking review queue for matching and categorizing, exactly as a working feed would, except you no longer depend on a Direct Connect link East West already shut off.
East West Bank statements convert cleanly because the layout stays consistent month to month. Personal and business checking statements list transactions in date order with a description and amount, separating deposits and credits from checks, withdrawals, and fees, with a daily or ending balance summary. Commercial and analysis accounts add service-charge sections. The converter strips out the summary boxes, fee tables, and marketing inserts, so only real transactions reach your .qbo file, and it reads scanned or photographed East West statements through OCR the same way it reads a digital PDF.
Use the online banking .qbo export for recent activity when it works, since it keeps QuickBooks current with little effort. Convert the PDF statement when the export comes back empty, when it only offers QFX or CSV that QuickBooks Desktop will not import, or when you need history the export misses: older periods, opening balances for a new QuickBooks file, a catch-up month, or a closed account. Because East West gave up the automatic feed, there is no live connection to lean on, so many bookkeepers handling East West accounts run a converted-statement workflow as the default rather than the backup.
Accuracy is the part that matters most, because a converter that quietly drops or misreads an East West transaction costs far more time than it saves. The error usually surfaces during reconciliation, sometimes weeks later, while you chase a few dollars across a long register. This converter totals the transactions it parsed and checks that figure against the statement total before it lets you export, so the .qbo you import reflects every line East West printed. You review the parsed rows in the preview first, then export once the numbers tie out.
