If a German American Bank feed in QuickBooks stopped after early 2025, the Heartland merger is the likely cause. German American Bancorp completed its merger with Heartland BancCorp on February 1 2025, and Heartland Bank merged into German American Bank that same day. The systems conversion followed shortly after the close of the first quarter of 2025, moving former Heartland Bank accounts in Ohio onto German American's platform and retiring the old Heartland connection. Any QuickBooks link set up under the Heartland Bank name no longer pulls transactions and has to be re-established under German American Bank. While you reconnect, work straight from the statement: upload a German American Bank PDF to the converter at the top of this page and get the transactions back in a format QuickBooks accepts.
The converter turns a German American Bank PDF statement into a .qbo Web Connect file that imports into QuickBooks Online or QuickBooks Desktop, plus matching Excel and CSV copies. Every transaction keeps its date, description, and amount, and the running total is checked against the statement before you export. Here is how these accounts connect to QuickBooks after the Heartland conversion, why links break in the move, and when converting the PDF is the faster route.
Built for the statements US banks actually send, checked before it exports.
The converter adds up the transactions it parsed and matches that to the statement total before you export, so nothing is silently dropped.
Valid OFX 1.02 with QuickBooks Web Connect headers. Online and Desktop import it as a standard bank feed.
OCR runs before parsing, so a scanned or photographed paper statement comes out the same as a digital PDF.
Bulk upload for catch-up and cleanup work. Each file gets its own reconciliation check and its own exports.
Enter the password on upload. Multi-column and multi-page statement layouts are parsed too.
One conversion, three files: the .qbo for QuickBooks, an XLSX to review, and a CSV for everything else.
Three steps. No column-mapping wizard.
Drag in a PDF, a scan, or a phone photo. Password-protected and multi-page files are fine.
Every transaction is extracted and checked against the statement total. You see the parsed rows before exporting.
Download the .qbo and import it as a Web Connect bank feed. Excel and CSV are in the same download.

Yes. German American Bank accounts work with QuickBooks. The bank supports a downloadable Web Connect (.qbo) file and an aggregated bank feed in QuickBooks Online, and business customers connect through German American's business online banking and treasury management. The point to watch after the 2025 merger is the institution name: a connection created while the account was branded Heartland Bank will not refresh, because the live profile moved to German American Bank in the conversion. Once you relink under the German American entry with your current login, the feed works normally again.
Select German American Bank. Former Heartland Bank accounts in the Columbus, Ohio area were converted onto German American's systems after the February 2025 merger, so German American Bank is the entry that matches your current online banking. Choosing Heartland Bank or Heartland BancCorp sends your credentials to a profile that no longer connects and the link fails. If you are unsure which German American entry to pick, match it to the website you log in to now, then convert your recent PDF statements so your books stay current while the new feed settles in.
Deactivate the old feed first, then add the account again under German American Bank. In QuickBooks Online, open the bank account, disconnect it, then add it back and search for German American Bank instead of Heartland. In QuickBooks Desktop, deactivate bank feeds for the account, then set them up again under the German American connection. Use your current online banking credentials, and pick the German American entry that matches your account, since both the branding and the feed moved during the conversion. If the new feed is slow to backfill, convert the German American PDF statements for the gap so your books stay complete.
German American Bank usually fails to connect because QuickBooks is still pointed at the old Heartland Bank profile instead of the German American entry the accounts moved to in the 2025 conversion. Until you deactivate that feed and relink under German American, downloads return nothing or throw an account-not-found error. The same delay shows up right after any bank conversion, when the aggregation feed needs a few days to map the migrated accounts. The fix is to reconnect under German American Bank. If the relink stalls or the first download is empty, convert the German American PDF statement to a .qbo file with the tool above so you are not blocked.
Log in to German American online banking, open the account, and use the export or download option, choosing the QuickBooks Web Connect (.qbo) format and a date range. Import the file in QuickBooks through Upload from file in QuickBooks Online, or File, Utilities, Import, Web Connect Files in Desktop. The live download usually reaches back only about 90 days, and statements issued under the Heartland name before the conversion may sit in a separate archive, so older periods are often out of range. When the .qbo option is missing or the download comes back as Quicken QFX, save the PDF statement for that period and convert it instead.
Sign in to German American online banking, open the account, and go to the statements or documents section to view your eStatements. Choose the month you need and save it as a PDF with the download or print option. Statements issued under the Heartland Bank name before the 2025 conversion may appear in a historical or document-archive area rather than the current list, so check there for older periods. Business users find statements inside the business online banking portal. Whatever the source, the PDF you download converts the same way.
Convert the German American Bank PDF to a .qbo file with the converter above, then import that file. In QuickBooks Online, go to Transactions, Bank transactions, then Upload from file, and choose the .qbo. In QuickBooks Desktop, go to File, Utilities, Import, Web Connect Files. QuickBooks asks which account the transactions belong to, then drops them into the banking review queue for matching and categorizing, exactly as a working feed would, without waiting on the German American reconnection or guessing which entry to pick.
German American statements convert cleanly across the bank's footprint in Indiana, Kentucky, and Ohio, including the layouts that came over from Heartland. Personal and business checking statements list transactions in date order with a description and amount, separating deposits and credits from checks, withdrawals, and fees, with a daily balance summary. Commercial and analysis accounts add service-charge sections. The converter strips out the summary boxes, fee tables, and inserts, so only real transactions reach your .qbo file, and it reads scanned or photographed statements through OCR the same way it reads a digital PDF.
Use the live feed for going-forward activity once the account is relinked under German American and behaving, since it keeps QuickBooks current with little effort. Convert the PDF statement when the feed is mid-move from Heartland, when a download comes back as QFX instead of .qbo, or when you need history the feed misses: pre-conversion Heartland months, opening balances for a new QuickBooks file, a catch-up period, or a closed account.
Accuracy is the part that matters most, because a converter that quietly drops or misreads a transaction costs far more time than it saves. The error usually surfaces during reconciliation, sometimes weeks later, while you chase a few dollars across a long register. This converter totals the transactions it parsed and checks that figure against the statement total before it lets you export, so the .qbo you import reflects every line German American printed. You review the parsed rows in the preview first, then export once the numbers tie out.
After the Heartland conversion the right answer depends on which institution entry QuickBooks is pointed at and whether you need history or only going-forward activity. Here is what each route needs and where it runs out.
| Route | What it needs | How far back | Key limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Web Connect download (.qbo) | An export from German American online banking, imported by hand | Whatever date range the export screen offers | You pick the range and import each file yourself, and QuickBooks Desktop accepts .qbo only |
| Aggregated bank feed in QuickBooks Online | Online banking credentials linked under the German American Bank entry | Commonly about 90 days once linked, and it varies by bank | Fails while QuickBooks is still pointed at the old Heartland Bank profile, so the old feed has to be deactivated first |
| German American business online banking | A business online banking login, which is separate from a personal one | Whatever the business platform exposes for download | Business accounts connect through the business platform, so the entry that works for a personal login may not be the one your business account needs |
| QuickBooks Online Upload from file | A QBO, QFX or CSV file you already have on disk | Whatever period the file itself covers | 350 KB maximum file size and 1,000 lines maximum per file |
| This PDF converter | The statement PDF, or a clear scan or photo of a paper statement | Any period you can produce a statement for, including pre merger Heartland statements | Convert one statement period per file so each import stays under the QuickBooks Online caps |
