Tompkins runs everything under one bank name now, and that 2022 consolidation is why a lot of QuickBooks connections still break. Effective January 1 2022, Tompkins Financial combined its four banking subsidiaries, The Bank of Castile, Mahopac Bank, and VIST Bank merged into Tompkins Trust Company, and the single bank changed its name to Tompkins Community Bank. Customers who used to bank with Bank of Castile, Mahopac Bank, or VIST Bank had their accounts moved onto the unified platform, which retired the old connection profiles those QuickBooks links pointed at. If your feed has been failing since then, or you just want the transactions in now, upload a Tompkins Community Bank PDF statement to the converter at the top of this page and get them back in a format QuickBooks accepts.
The converter turns a Tompkins PDF statement into a .qbo Web Connect file that imports into QuickBooks Online or QuickBooks Desktop, plus matching Excel and CSV copies. Every transaction keeps its date, description, and amount, and the running total is checked against the statement before you export. Here is how Tompkins Community Bank connects to QuickBooks, why the 2022 consolidation and Direct Connect setup cause failed links, and when converting the PDF is the faster route.
Built for the statements US banks actually send, checked before it exports.
The converter adds up the transactions it parsed and matches that to the statement total before you export, so nothing is silently dropped.
Valid OFX 1.02 with QuickBooks Web Connect headers. Online and Desktop import it as a standard bank feed.
OCR runs before parsing, so a scanned or photographed paper statement comes out the same as a digital PDF.
Bulk upload for catch-up and cleanup work. Each file gets its own reconciliation check and its own exports.
Enter the password on upload. Multi-column and multi-page statement layouts are parsed too.
One conversion, three files: the .qbo for QuickBooks, an XLSX to review, and a CSV for everything else.
Three steps. No column-mapping wizard.
Drag in a PDF, a scan, or a phone photo. Password-protected and multi-page files are fine.
Every transaction is extracted and checked against the statement total. You see the parsed rows before exporting.
Download the .qbo and import it as a Web Connect bank feed. Excel and CSV are in the same download.

Yes. Tompkins Community Bank works with QuickBooks. It publishes its own QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Desktop conversion instructions and supports Direct Connect and a downloadable Web Connect (.qbo) file. In QuickBooks you select the Tompkins Community Bank entry (listed for Direct Connect as Tompkins Community Bank-TM-DC) and confirm the account is activated for QuickBooks online services. The catch is that your Direct Connect credentials, the Account Customer ID and PIN, are issued by the bank and do not always match your regular online banking login, which trips up the first connection.
Select Tompkins Community Bank, not the old Bank of Castile, Mahopac Bank, or VIST Bank names. Since the January 1 2022 consolidation, all four legacy banks operate as one Tompkins Community Bank, and the retired names either no longer appear in QuickBooks or point at a dead connection. For Direct Connect, choose the Tompkins Community Bank-TM-DC entry and enter the Account Customer ID and PIN the bank gave you. Picking a legacy subsidiary name is the most common reason a Tompkins link fails, so if you see an old name selected, remove it and reconnect under Tompkins Community Bank.
Tompkins usually fails to connect for one of two reasons: the account is still tied to a retired Bank of Castile, Mahopac, or VIST profile from before the 2022 consolidation, or the Direct Connect credentials are wrong. Direct Connect uses an Account Customer ID and PIN that the bank issues separately, so entering your everyday online banking username and password returns an error. The fix is to deactivate the old feed, reconnect under Tompkins Community Bank-TM-DC, and use the bank-issued Direct Connect credentials. If the relink stalls or the first download is empty, convert the Tompkins PDF statement to a .qbo file with the tool above and import it so you are not blocked.
Back up your data first, then in QuickBooks deactivate any account still linked to a legacy Bank of Castile, Mahopac, or VIST connection. Add the account again by searching for Tompkins Community Bank, choosing the Direct Connect entry if you use Direct Connect, and signing in with your Account Customer ID and PIN. In QuickBooks Desktop, turn off Bank Feeds on the account, then set it up fresh and link it to your existing register so history is not duplicated. If you do not have Direct Connect enabled or the reconnect comes back empty, download the PDF statement and convert it with the tool above to fill the gap.
Log in to Tompkins Community Bank online banking, open the account, and use the export or download option, choosing the QuickBooks Web Connect (.qbo) format and a date range. Import the file in QuickBooks through Upload from file in QuickBooks Online, or File, Utilities, Import, Web Connect Files in Desktop. Direct Connect downloads straight into Bank Feeds once your Customer ID is set up. The live download usually reaches back only about 90 days, so older periods are out of range. If the .qbo option is missing or the download comes back as Quicken QFX, save the PDF statement and convert it instead.
Sign in to Tompkins Community Bank online banking, open the account, and go to the statements or documents section to view your eStatements. Pick the month you need and save it as a PDF with the download or print option. Online statement history is usually limited to a couple of years, and older Bank of Castile, Mahopac, or VIST statements may sit behind the consolidated profile, so request earlier statements from the bank if they are not listed. Whatever the source, the PDF you download converts the same way.
Convert the Tompkins PDF to a .qbo file with the converter above, then import that file. In QuickBooks Online, go to Transactions, Bank transactions, then Upload from file, and choose the .qbo. In QuickBooks Desktop, go to File, Utilities, Import, Web Connect Files. QuickBooks asks which account the transactions belong to, then drops them into the banking review queue for matching and categorizing, exactly as a working Tompkins feed would, without waiting on a reconnection or a Direct Connect enrollment.
Tompkins Community Bank statements convert cleanly because the layout is consistent across the former subsidiaries. Personal and business checking statements list transactions in date order with a description and amount, separating deposits and credits from checks, withdrawals, and fees, with a daily balance summary. Commercial and analysis accounts add service-charge sections. The converter strips out the summary boxes, fee tables, and inserts, so only real transactions reach your .qbo file, and it reads scanned or photographed statements through OCR the same way it reads a digital PDF, including older Bank of Castile, Mahopac, or VIST statements you still have on file.
Use the Tompkins feed for going-forward activity once the account is linked under Tompkins Community Bank with the right Direct Connect credentials, since it keeps QuickBooks current with little effort. Convert the PDF statement when a relink after the 2022 consolidation is pending, when Direct Connect is not yet enrolled, when a download comes back as QFX instead of .qbo, or when you need history the feed misses: older periods, opening balances for a new QuickBooks file, a catch-up month, or a closed legacy account.
Accuracy is the part that matters most, because a converter that quietly drops or misreads a transaction costs far more time than it saves. The error usually surfaces during reconciliation, sometimes weeks later, while you chase a few dollars across a long register. This converter totals the transactions it parsed and checks that figure against the statement total before it lets you export, so the .qbo you import reflects every line Tompkins printed. You review the parsed rows in the preview first, then export once the numbers tie out.
